HOW TO GET THERE

Newcastle – Gateshead Marathon – Sunday 5th May 2024 | Start Time: 9:00 am

*Please note that due to the road closures in place, there is a 6-hour cut-off time for the event. *

Car
Event postcode: NE10 0EF
There will be NO Event Parking at Gateshead Stadium (excluding Blue Badge Holders). We encourage runners to arrive by Metro or to use available public & private parking away from the venue.

Please also note, there will be NO parking at Bede Primary School this year and the following car parks are CLOSED by the event road closures: Pipewell Gate, South Shore Road, Baltic Car Park, Close Swing Bridge.

The closest public car parks are:
Quarryfield Road (10min walk)
Sage Gateshead (15min walk)
Mecca Bingo (15min walk)
Gateshead Town Centre (many) (20mins walk)
Quarryfield Road Car Park

Please also be aware that some public car parks have reserved spaces for permit holders so don’t use these spaces to avoid being fined.

Rail
The nearest train station is Newcastle Central Station (East Coast Line). Travel from Newcastle Central Station to Gateshead Stadium Metro station using the Metro.

We advise planning your journey before the race to ensure you arrive at the train station with as much time as possible. Newcastle to Gateshead Stadium is a 5min Metro journey with a 5min walk to the arena from Gateshead Stadium Metro.

Metro
We advise all runners to travel by Metro to Gateshead Stadium Metro station which is a short walk from Gateshead International Stadium.

Metro trains run a frequent service from Newcastle, Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Newcastle Airport and North Tyneside.

There is a Metro Park & Ride to Gateshead Stadium Metro station from:
Callerton Parkway, Regent Centre, Four Lane Ends, Northumberland Park, Heworth and Stadium of Light Metro Stations.

Bus
The event is also accessible by bus, however, routes will be affected by road closures for the event. It is possible to get bus services to Newcastle City Centre, Gateshead or Heworth Metro Stations then use the Metro to get to Gateshead Stadium Metro Station.

Race Packs 
This information will be communicated near the event date.

You will not be able to run without a race number and chip.

NO CHIP MEANS NO TIME.
When you receive your race packs, please take a couple of minutes to fill out the brief runner Information form which can be found printed on the back of your bib. This will help us greatly in case of an emergency!

T-Shirts
If you’ve purchased an £12 event T-shirt with your race entry, this will be posted to you separately. Any additional RunThrough kit, including socks and RT branded T-shirts can be collected from the Kit Stall on the day. Please have your order number ready to collect these.

Race Start 
We will line runners up based on estimated finish times to avoid any congestion at this point.

Please listen closely to all marshal instructions to do this, and remember to keep a safe distance from the runners around you. 

Toilets
For this event we will use portaloos outside of Gateshead Stadium in the main car park, these will be accessible for all runners. There will also be access to toilets inside Gateshead Stadium for spectators.

Baggage
The car park is located next to the stadium and we therefore recommend leaving any belongings in your car after your warm up and get ready to run.

We will have an informal baggage drop for this event. We recommend you bring as little baggage as possible. Your baggage tag is attached to your race number, you simply tear it off and attach to your bag. To collect, show your number to the baggage staff and they will help you find your baggage.

During the race
We will have marshals all around the course as well as mile signs and arrows.

Results will be available on https://www.runthrough.co.uk/results/ after the race.

Pictures
We will have a photographer taking a few snaps of the race and they will be available to view here after the race so be sure to check it out and see if you can spot yourself.

Spectators
Spectators are more than welcome to come along and support runners.

You will have access to the stadium to watch the start and finish of the races.

We will have refreshments available to purchase, you can take these into the stand, but not onto the track itself. 

Refreshments
There will be water provided at the water station and we recommend you stay hydrated in the lead-up to the event.

After the race
Do NOT stop within the finish area. Please continue through the finish until you pass the medals and are in an open space.
